Yesterday I snagged a Gretsch G9500 aka "Jim Dandy" for $150 at my local Guitar Center. A deal like this was too hard to pass up. Besides, this thing is so much fun!
This was 100% an impulse buy, so I didn't do any research beforehand. In fact, I didn't even know this thing existed until I walked into the room.
I wouldn't be able to tell you what they mean when they say it's got a 24" scale or agathis body. I don't know what any of that is supposed to mean, and I'm not inclined to worry about it. It sounds good enough for what I do, and it's a damn good value.
The Jim Dandy has a beautiful matte look and feel to it which I adore. I'm a sucker for minimal design and this one caught my eye pretty early on.
It's a bit on the small side (this must be where the 24" scale comes in), but for me that's a plus. The other acoustic I have has started to feel a bit cumbersome. It's a full-sized acoustic-electric and after using the Jim Dandy for a few hours, it feels a bit excessive for my needs. I only want something I can pick up and play so this is ideal for a quick session.
Jimbo isn't the loudest guitar, but that's not exactly what I need or want. I'm not trying to be heard over a full band or roaring crowd. It's just me, in my home, with my family. No need to burst eardrums.
I plan to keep this guitar for a very long time and have a ton of fun with it! Rock on!
